Sitting Bull campground to Cody, WY
We made an early start from Sitting Bull Campground....there was almost no trace of last night's rain, and the temp was 46 degrees at 7:30am! After one hour (and a descent of about 5000 feet) it was 79 degrees. The geology is like an everchanging slide-show....here's just a taste of what we saw along the way:
We stopped in Meeteetse, having heard that it was a quaint little historic town. Well....let's just say it was little. After 5 mins we'd seen pretty much all of it. So---on to Cody. We decided to stay at the Buffalo Bill Reservoir Campground, just west of town (and only about 20 miles from Yellowstone, our next stop)....found a great spot overlooking the water, no reservation required. We'll be here through the weekend, planning to take a day trips to Big Horn Canyon (to just barely dip our toes in Montana) and maybe visit the Buffalo Bill museums (5, grouped together) or the local Japanese Restaurant if we're in the mood. We have some groceries and other supplies to lay in before we enter Yellowstone on Monday, so it's great to have Cody so conveniently nearby. There's also a very nice quilt shop I want to visit...I may do that without Nils, he can kayak on the huge reservoir instead. Right now I'm sitting in the lovely Cody Public Library...it even has a cafe! (I can hear the latte machine).
